About My Work

Sand-Media makes digital cultural traces visible on compacted sand. Transience is transformed into a temporary haptic experience – digital data becomes earthbound artwork.

The proprietary process emerged from years of development, in which printing technology and media art evolved into a unique visual language. It enables digital image data to be printed directly onto fine, ephemeral sand – a dialogue between high-tech and organic materiality.

The Sand-Media printer produces digital photo portraits on paper. The toner particles adhere solely through electrostatic charge.

This delicate print template is then transferred onto a prepared, compacted sand surface. In the next step, the sand image can be individually enhanced with pigments – meditative, ephemeral, and personal. Multiple panels can be assembled into impressive sand-based image landscapes.

From Sand Image to Earth Tile

Earth-Prints make the ephemeral sand images permanently visible and suitable for hanging. Digital reproductions of the original, transient sand works are transferred onto moist, unfired clay tablets – earthy, raw, and striking. A new, tangible form of artistic remembrance emerges: fragile, yet enduring.
